It is with great sadness that I share news of the passing of our dear friend, Derek Baker.
A long time servant and legend of our Club, Derek’s contributions over several decades were immense and earned him a much deserved appointment as a lifetime Vice President of Leatherhead Cricket Club. He managed junior cricket for many years and nurtured the development of his sons, Dave, Matt and Andy into outstanding cricketers. More recently, he enjoyed watching the next generation of youngsters, including his grandson, Mason, embarking on their cricketing journeys.
He spent many years organising the bar and undertaking endless ‘behind the scenes’ jobs to ensure the smooth running of the Club for all of us. Right up until end of last season, he was our 2nd XI scorer, providing reliable and much appreciated support for the team.
Derek’s ‘larger than life’ personality and sense of humour were infectious and created a warm and welcoming atmosphere for members and visitors alike, whenever they visited our Club. He will be sorely missed and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Sue, and the entire Baker family at this time.
Rest in peace, Delboy, we love you!
