“After what feels like weeks of endless rain, the sun finally came out to shine on the Leatherhead over 21s Ladies Cricket team on the first day of the season.
Having discussed what the very first session might be like over What’s App messages for the past few months it was great to finally meet everyone in person, which after the Covid years, meeting face to face is relished these days!
Slightly apprehensive at my own abilities (or lack thereof) compared to my fellow teammates, I was relieved to see no one put their hands in the air to claim having ever played a match or indeed hold a cricket bat – phew!
Despite this, some strong batting techniques were displayed from the ladies – whether these are strictly legal will be learnt in time – as well as some very vocal support and encouragement for every catch and ball struck.
It’s the start of the season but with such great coaching from Alex and Nathan I have no doubt we will be match ready for our first festival – which I am told is very much like being at Glastonbury with some cricket bats thrown in!
Roll on the summer and next Monday!”

“I would highly recommend coming along and joining the new Ladies Cricket night, that started on Monday 17th April. For many of us it was our first time ever having a go at cricket! We started with the basics, how to hold the bat, how to stand and then did some practice hitting with tennis balls. We went on to play some games in different teams and all had a go with bowling, batting and fielding. The coaches were really helpful and supportive.
It was so much fun! I really enjoyed the fresh air, exercise, learning new skills and having a really good laugh! What was really nice was how everyone supported each other, and we all just had a go! There's even the option to stay for a glass of prosecco afterwards, so it's a very sociable evening. I'm looking forward to many more summer evenings at the cricket club now. See you there soon!”
